September Haul pt1

I was quite swamped recently, and had to seriously re-check what I already photographed and prepared to blog about, since the packages were still coming in even when I didn’t have time to document everything. I will do a short-ish update on some non-switch items I received recently, and in another post I will focus on the switches, since there is a few.

So to get the silly out of the way, a while back I bought a giant switch from Gateron, it seemed like a stupid fun thing to buy. It has five random switches inside so you can get some rarer ones, and they are packed in cute balls, so it’s like a gacha machine. I lied to myself that I bought it for my wife which loves that shit, but we all know. You can push on the button on top where the keycap usually comes, it does a spin and then you pull out a side latch and a switch falls down. I actually got a really good one that I have to identify, hope it’s a older one, it didn’t come up after a quick google, will update this post when I find out which five I got. It would be really cool if I figure out what else to put inside, or create a STL in the shape of the ball, so I could do some raffles when friends come over, or perhaps even streaming giveaways.

Pink Wooting60 Build

pink build

ok the plate and the stabs aren’t, I actually have pink stabs in my storage, and I’ve actually tried 3 different plates, but the POM plate is soft as fuck and the PC was kinda muted. The ceramic keys really make a change in the sound, they mute everything below, and HE switches aren’t as loud as normal ones as is, so I’ve actually put in foam between the PC

Mid August haul

Since my manic shopping spree, I have been receiving packages almost daily. A lot of them are switches, some are keycaps, and some are PCBs and cases. So this post will be more of a pic-dump than anything. Recently I received the light pink Tofu60 redux case I was hoping to get from EU, but after waiting for months, I decided to order it from KBDfans on Aliexpress, which has a hefty shipping price (Which is still much cheaper than ordering from their homepage cries in EU), and of course I had to get the brass weight as well, which had almost the same shipping price as the weight itself. As my luck had it, few days after receiving it, I noticed Maxgaming has new Tofu60 arrivals, which are both pink shades of pink I was looking for, oh well. I also received the TeamWolf Keypad with 8k polling and HE switches which I will be reviewing, and I am still waiting for the Raven68 from them, which should be arriving soon. It looks cute, I went for the brighter colour for a change Keypad I will do a separate review along with the full keyboard, at the moment I’m figuring out how to measure latency in a reliable way. One option is to take the system latency into account, which is kinda accurate in real life kind of way, the other is custom equipment and expensive measuring equipment, which is not on my radar for the time being. Perhaps I will make a small contraption to trigger a solenoid which imitates a finger press, and measure the response on the screen. I would still need a really high FPS camera, I could get a 1000+ fps camera, but when we get to 1ms latency we are kinda hitting the cap with that. An oscilloscope or a usb analyzer are an option, but both require soldering/messing with the keyboard.

Magnetic Keyboards

So a few weeks ago I decided to pull the trigger on the Wooting80 HE. At first I was kinda put off the design, but over time it really grew on me. It’s a bit smaller than a TKL, which are too large for me personally, and just a bit larger than a 60%. It has arrow keys and the F-row which are useful for productivity tasks and non-FPS gaming, but it’s a little more compact, as I don’t really need 6 utility keys (home, end, pgup, pgdown, insert, delete) The excuse I thought up for buying it was, I could use it for casual coding on my gaming workspace, so I can game and code using the same keyboard. I do have a dedicated coding space with another keyboard and… several other keyboards, and I can code just fine for majority of cases with the 60 layout and layers I’ve set up, but I NEED IT you know. I love the Wooting60 I own, it’s the one I main for everything besides work, but I was alternating between Steelseries Apex Mini wireless and Wooting before, since I have several workstations, but since I had some issues with the Apex mini, I contacted the support and absolutely obliterated it broke the USB-C connector to get a coupon for a replacement. Sadly because of some EU laws, they couldn’t ship the wireless one (batteries and shipping) and I decided I’m just going to stay away from Steelseries anyhow, since I also had bad experience with Arctis Nova Pro Wireless. I ordered headphones for my friend and started looking at alternatives.
